Magnolia Plantation

On Friday, I picked up Savanah from the airport around 3:00, and we went straight to Magnolia Plantation because we are history buffs. Sound good right?

First up, the petting zoo!
The peacocks were screaming at us! I kept chasing him hoping that he would open up his feather.
He just kept running and screaming.
Guess I am not his biggest fan.

I guess it was pay back time because when I walked into the petting zoo, I was on the other end.
These roosters were chasing after me!
I'm not sure what it feels like to get pecked by a bird, but I didn't want to find out.

We didn't stay too long in the petting zoo. It didn't exactly smell like roses if ya know what I mean!

There are several different choices of what you want to do while you are there.
We chose the house tour.
Isn't she a beauty??
They were planning a rehearsal dinner on the porch while we were there.
Who lives in Charleston and wants to marry me so I can get married out here??

All right, now that I have shamed myself, here are some pictures of the garden area behind the house.

Guess I will have to settle for these pictures rather than a wedding!

Have you ever been to a plantation home?
Any suggestions of others to go to in Charleston?

FB

Facebook

I made a Facebook page for my blog. I know a lot of people keep up with blogs through Facebook! I still am not using a personal Facebook page though. So do not be offended if I decline your request. :-)

All you have to do is like the page and it will show up in your fb news feed. (I think)

Have a good evening!

I am off to watch The Bachelorette!

South of Broad

On Thursday, I drove downtown for a run and of course I had to take my camera with me. On my list of many things to see was The Battery.

the Battery

STALKER ALERT!!!

If you saw me standing outside your home and taking a picture, I apologize!
I just think  your home is beautiful!
Look at these porches!
I can just imagine having friends over, sitting on the porch with a cocktail!

Who wants to join me??

You will have to help me with a down payment first. OK?
Oh, you changed your mind now.......
I see.

Can I please have this as my morning view when I wake up??

Is this backyard not stunning!!??

Have you ever run into a horse on your midday run?
Because I was about 5 inches from running into this horse!
Seriously, I turned the corner and we were about to have a nose kiss!
Guess it's something I will have to get used to!

Can't wait to tell you about all the fun things that Savanah and I got to do this weekend!!

Hampton Park in CHS

If you are getting tired of my posts about my day, you may want to just check out of my blog until August. I definitely want to remember all of the fun things that I am doing in Charleston and will continue to post about all of my exciting adventures! Hope you are enjoying seeing a little bit of Charleston through my pictures!

Can someone please find me a job in Charleston so that I never have to leave this city???

  fountain;

On Tuesday, I drove downtown and went for a run at Hampton Park.

  hydrangeas;

I probably did not get much exercise because I kept stopping to take pictures of the beautiful scenery.

I will definitely go back here at least once a week for a run. There were so many people running, walking, or playing with their dogs. I definitely want to bring my dogs here, but I can't run with them so they have to stay home often.

There were flowers all over. It would be a young boys dream park with all the awesome climbing trees!

Isn't this park beautiful? I plan on checking out many more parks as I look for places to run. I found a babysitting job so was busy working on Tuesday and Wednesday night. It rained all day on Wednesday so I didn't do too much. I think I needed a day of relaxation after all of the going and going I have been doing.

I did get a chance to check out Trader Joe's on Tuesday. I have been dying to go there.  I absolutely will be back. They have so many things that looked delicious and were super cheap. The fresh salads were huge and only $3. I also bought wine which was only $3!

I am absolutely loving Charleston so far and would absolutely consider moving here permanently. Just need a J-O-B!! Know anyone hiring????

Day 1 in Charleston

I woke up in my new place and spent some of the morning unpacking and making it feel like home. I absolutely love my new place and the best thing about it is that it has a backyard for my dogs! I will take some pictures soon to post.

I had a few errands to run and had no food at home so I ventured off to Five Loaves Cafe' which is pretty close to my place. It was a little hard to find, but the salad was so good. They have a honey basil dressing which was absolutely delicious!

5 loaves

It was my first time dining solo and I feel like I picked a perfect place to get out of my comfort zone. I was a little nervous walking in because eating alone has never been something I was comfortable with.

The salad was delicious and would have been enough without the sandwich. The salad was only $4! I chose the smoked salmon salad and the ham/brie sandwich. I think I have decided I just don't like ham. I love brie so I went for it, but I would have liked it much better with prosciutto or something else besides ham.

That night, I made my first trip out to King Street. Michal chose one of her favorite restaurants, The Macintosh and off we went!

  macintosh bar

We sat at the bar rather than waiting on a table. I think I prefer that right now because we get the chance to talk to the bartender about the area every time.

  macblog

The bartender recommended these two items so we split an appetizer and a meal.

  macintoshmenu

So good! We devoured the scallops before I thought to take a picture! We also had a side of mashed potatoes which were heaven in my mouth!

After dinner at Macintosh, we walked down King Street to have a couple of beers at Closed for Business. We were sitting in a couch area alone for awhile. It became awkward really quickly though when a couple came to sit on the couch next to us. Let's just say they should have gone home in their own bedroom!

We ended the night with a glass of wine at Hall's Chophouse. I absolutely will be back here. We sat in the bar area and all of the waiters and waitresses were so nice. The service was awesome. Many of the waiters came by to talk to us and make us feel welcome. We ended the night sharing a complimentary dessert with one of the guys that seated us. I think he was a manager or something, but he was super friendly AKA flirty. I think we are going back on Thursday!

Edit to add: later found out he was a Hall....haha :-)

So far, I am loving Charleston!! I can't wait to see more of it!

Do you have any dining solo tips? Do you enjoy it or is it out of your comfort zone?

Savannah, GA

peachstand

Like I said yesterday, we started our fun in Georgia at a peach stand. They had normal peaches and white peaches. We decided on the normal peaches and got a bucket. Anyone have any good peach recipes???

After getting our peaches, we drove on in to Savannah.

  lady and sons

I did not take many pictures because it was too hard to take pictures and hold on to my 2 dogs. Of course I had to get a picture of Paula Dean's restaurant though.

  LS

We walked along the river and ate a restaurant next to the water. We both had crab cakes. They were delicious!
  bridge

After brunch, we walked around downtown and then went shopping on Broughton Street.

  boats

We walked around for a couple of hours and had planned to stay for longer. It was super hot outside and the dogs were getting very tired. We decided to get in the car and head to Charleston a little earlier than planned. We drove by Forsyth Park to see the fountain, but were just too tired to get out and take any pictures. I definitely want to go back to Savannah without dogs so that I can do and see more! It seems like such a fun town! Maybe I will do a weekend trip sometime this summer!

If you have been to Savannah or if you live there, what are some fun things to do??

I am a single 20 something teacher in Charleston. I love to shop, decorate, cook, work with children, hang out with friends, and do anything in/on the water. Living near the beach definitely has its perks! I graduated from LSU and I LOVE to watch football. I will watch almost any college football game, but obviously love my tigers! I love to hang out with my family and hope to have my own one day.
